Shelbyville, IN – The City of Shelbyville is excited to release the Q2 Construction Video Update, highlighting several key infrastructure projects that are poised to significantly enhance the quality of life in our community. These updates include the Southwest Connector Trail extension, the North Riley Highway Beautification Project, the Eight47 Lofts multi-use and multi-family affordable housing structure, the Isabelle Farms single-family home neighborhood, and the McKay Overlay project.
Southwest Connector Trail Extension
The Southwest Connector Trail extension adds 2 miles of trail by our school system, offering students, families, and outdoor enthusiasts a safe and scenic route for walking, running, and biking. This extension not only promotes a healthier lifestyle but also connects more neighborhoods, fostering a sense of community and accessibility. This project will result in over 50% of our households being within a quarter mile walk to our trail system.
North Riley Highway Beautification Project
The North Riley Highway Beautification Project is a comprehensive initiative that includes the addition of two roundabouts, native plants, trails for safe accessibility along the highway, and aesthetic enhancements from the I-74 exit ramp into the historic downtown. This project aims to improve traffic flow, reduce accidents, and create a welcoming gateway to our city, boosting both safety and the local economy.
Eight47 Lofts and Isabelle Farms Neighborhood
The Eight47 Lofts project introduces a multi-use, multi-family affordable housing structure, addressing the growing need for quality, affordable housing in Shelbyville. Meanwhile, the Isabelle Farms neighborhood offers new single-family homes, providing more options for families looking to settle in our charming community. These are just two of eight housing projects currently in development within the city limits and are crucial for attracting new residents and supporting economic growth.
Adjacent to the school system’s main drag, the McKay Overlay project includes resurfacing and improvements to enhance the road’s safety and appearance. This project will ensure smoother commutes and safer travel for students and residents alike. This particular project is larger in scale than typical city overlay projects due to the additional installation of underground drainage to help alleviate some of the drainage problems in the area.
