Shelbyville, IN [June 27, 2024] – The City of Shelbyville announces that Val Phares is stepping down from the Board of Works due to schedule conflicts. Mayor Scott Furgeson has appointed Rodney Meyerholtz to fill the vacancy left by Phares’ departure.
Rodney Meyerholtz is a distinguished member of the Shelbyville community, with a robust history of professional and civic contributions. A 1972 graduate of Shelbyville High School, Meyerholtz has dedicated much of his career to serving the community in various capacities.
Meyerholtz’s extensive professional experience includes his tenure at Shelby County Savings Bank, where he worked from 1976 to 1998, serving as President and CEO from 1986 to 1998. His leadership skills were further demonstrated during his term as Shelbyville Clerk-Treasurer from 2000 to 2011. Additionally, he served as Office Administrator for the law firm of McNeely, Stephenson from 2012 to 2020.
Meyerholtz has also been actively involved in local civic organizations. He was the Shelby County Republican Central Committee Chairman from 2001 to 2006. His commitment to community service is reflected in his roles as a board member and Treasurer of Girls, Inc. from 1986 to 2001 and Shelby Senior Services from 2016 to 2022.
Rodney Meyerholtz has been married to his wife, Melissa, for 49 years. They have three daughters, Julie Fegan, Joni Martin, and Jeri Tribby, and five grandchildren.
Mayor Scott Furgeson expressed his gratitude to Val Phares for his service and welcomed Meyerholtz to the Board. “Rodney’s deep roots in Shelbyville and his extensive experience in both the private and public sectors make him an excellent addition to the Board of Works. We are confident that he will serve our community with dedication and integrity.”
