City of Shelbyville Takes Precautions to Protect Employees and Citizens

In light of Governor Holcomb’s announcement and efforts to limit the spread of COVID-19 the City of Shelbyville is taking the following steps:

Parks Department:

• The Carl McNeely Civic Center Fitness Center and Gym will be closed beginning on March 16^th and will reopen on March 30^th.
• All volleyball, basketball, pickleball, and walking are postponed until further notice.
• Parks Department Pre-School is closed beginning on March 16^th and will reopen on March 30^th.
• Teddy Bear Tumblers Classes are canceled beginning on March 16^th and will reopen on March 30^th.
• The Parks will remain open.
• The Parks Department office will remain open at this time for normal business.
• City of Shelbyville Parks Board will meet on Wednesday March 18^th at 2:15 at the Parks Department to address critical services and agenda items.

City Boards and Commissions Meetings:

• City of Shelbyville Common Council will meet on March 16^th at 8:30 a.m. with a premeeting at 8:00 a.m. to address critical services and agenda items.
• City of Shelbyville Board of Public Works and Safety will meet on Tuesday March 17^th at 8:30 a.m. with a premeeting at 8:00 a.m. to address critical services and agenda items.
• All other meetings will generally be postponed unless they too must meet to address critical services or agenda items.
• For any public meetings that must take place, the City will offer virtual options to view the meeting live or to watch in a re-play. In the interest of social distancing as advised by health officials in addition to coming to the meeting any citizens that wish to make a public comment may submit comments and questions to the following email address: mayor@cityofshelbyvillein.com or mailed to the City of Shelbyville at 44 W. Washington St. Shelbyville, In 46176.
• All Boards and Commissions have been asked to reduce agendas to those essential items and to hold their meetings in large enough rooms to accommodate distance between participants.

The City asks all citizens to use their best judgment. If they or a family member are ill or show signs of being ill to remain at home. City Officials are monitoring the situation and the guidance from the Indiana State Department of Health, national health organizations and our local health department.  If any additional cancelations or closures become advisable or necessary the City will notify the public.
