Press Release: City of Shelbyville Appoints Hillary Martinez as Community Project Navigator

Last Updated on April 16, 2024 by Jenna Martin

Shelbyville – The City of Shelbyville proudly announces the appointment of Hillary Martinez to the newly established role of Community Project Navigator within the Behavioral Health and Equity Department. In this pivotal position, Martinez will spearhead efforts to bridge citizens facing opioid use disorders (OUD) with vital community resources.

As a city committed to the health and well-being of its residents, the Behavioral Health and Equity Department serves as a conduit between citizens, organizations, and businesses striving to uplift our community. By identifying and addressing existing gaps that contribute to negative behaviors, the department endeavors to enhance the quality of life for all residents through economic initiatives, programs, and resource allocation.

Martinez brings a wealth of experience to her new role, having served the City of Shelbyville for the past three years as a Personnel Assistant to the Human Resources Director and City Attorney and assisting with special projects for the Behavioral Health and Equity team. Her familiarity with the city’s operations, combined with her dedication to community betterment, positions her as an invaluable asset in advancing the department’s mission.

Among the department’s key initiatives for the fiscal year is the establishment of a Jail Navigation Program aimed at reducing recidivism rates by connecting individuals within the criminal justice system to essential resources prior to their release. Martinez’s appointment will enable the department to expand its reach and provide ongoing assistance in combating OUD, SUD, and mental health challenges.

Martinez’s appointment further solidifies the City of Shelbyville’s commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive community. Her dedication to advocacy and her deep roots within Shelbyville make her an ideal candidate to navigate the complex landscape of community health and wellness.
