Shelbyville Downtown Redevelopment Project Earns National Recognition Award in 2024 ACEC Engineering Excellence Awards

SHELBYVILLE, IN [March 18, 2024] – The City of Shelbyville is proud to announce that its transformative project, the Shelbyville Downtown Redevelopment, has been honored with a prestigious National Recognition Award in the 2024 Engineering Excellence Awards (EEA) competition, hosted by the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC). This accolade marks a significant milestone in recognizing the innovative and impactful contributions of the project to the community and beyond.

The ACEC Engineering Excellence Awards are renowned globally as the pinnacle celebration of engineering brilliance, showcasing projects that demonstrate exceptional innovation, creativity, and ingenuity in engineering practices. Among a competitive pool of submissions, the Shelbyville Downtown Redevelopment project stood out for its outstanding achievements and positive impact on the urban landscape. More than 675 people attend the EEA Gala each year including engineering’s leading professionals, members of Congress, and federal, state, and regional agency administrators. Ninety percent of attendees are A/E firm CEOs and Senior Leadership representing more than 125 firms nationwide.

 

Tom DeBaun, immediate past City of Shelbyville Mayor and the driving force behind the Shelbyville Downtown Revitalization Project, reflected on the project’s impact, stating, “The Shelbyville Downtown Redevelopment project symbolizes our collective vision for a thriving and dynamic community. It’s a testament to what can be achieved when we come together with passion, dedication, and a shared commitment to revitalizing our urban spaces.”

BF&S (Butler, Fairman, and Seufert), the lead civil engineer for the downtown revitalization initiative, Genesis Development Group, the lead development group in charge of the project, and Ratio, the landscape architects, played pivotal roles in bringing the vision of the Shelbyville Downtown Redevelopment to fruition. Their dedication to excellence and commitment to pushing the boundaries of engineering solutions have been instrumental in shaping the project’s success.
