We are excited to announce that starting in mid-July the Shelbyville Street Department will begin a FREE, curbside recycling program for all residential homes in the City of Shelbyville! Pick up will be on residents’ regular trash day and will be a full recycling service (paper, plastic, glass, metal). During the months of May and June, we will be delivering a free recycling can to all homes in Shelbyville. If you are a Shelbyville resident and DO NOT WISH to participate in the program, please call our office or email us at ShelbyStreets5169@gmail.com and let us know so that we do not bring you a can.
We are very excited to offer this service to our residents. We feel it is our duty to start reducing the amount of waste our community is putting in the landfill and this is a great start. We hope you will help us with this goal.

We will pick up larger items that we usually would not take outside of our regular clean ups for a fee. Residents who wish to use the program will need to visit our office to pay for a sticker or tag to put on the item that they wish to have collected. Items will not be collected without being tagged. Prices depend on the size of the item but vary from $10-$30. The item will be picked up on your next regular trash day, from the purchase date of your tag. Our first week to run the program will be February 1st-5th.
Although we are taking larger items for this program, we will not pick up anything that will require extra equipment. Items must be light enough for two people to pick up.
If you would like more information about the program, please call 392-5169.
The Shelbyville Street Department is accepting electronic devices at our facility at 605 Hale Rd. which will be delivered to the Pollution Prevention Center at a later date to be recycled. Items may be dropped off just inside the gate of the facility where there is a bin labeled “Electronics”. Items that will be accepted are televisions, VCR/DVD players, computer monitors, hard drives, printers, keyboards, scanners, and copy machines. Items can be dropped off from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Drop off is for city residents only.
The Street Department will not be collecting these items at curbside; this is a drop off service only.
